Eligibility Criteria

  1. Active Recovery Status: Applicants must be in active recovery from addiction or substance abuse. This includes those currently enrolled in a recovery program, support group, or demonstrating a commitment to their recovery journey.

  2. Educational Goals: Applicants must be planning to attend a two- or four-year college, trade school, or professional certificate program. The scholarship is intended to support educational and career advancement.

  3. Residency: Applicants must be legal residents of the United States.

  4. Age Requirement: Applicants must be at least 18 years old.

Application Components

  • Personal Statement (500-750 words): Applicants must submit a personal statement that details their recovery journey, educational goals, and how this scholarship will help them achieve their aspirations. This is an opportunity to share your story and explain your commitment to both recovery and education.

  • Proof of Recovery: Applicants must provide documentation supporting their active recovery status. This can include a letter from a counselor, sponsor, or recovery program, or other relevant documentation.

  • Academic Records: Applicants must submit the most recent transcripts from their high school, GED program, or any post-secondary institutions attended. If academic records are unavailable, please provide a letter explaining the circumstances.

  • Letters of Recommendation: Two letters of recommendation are required. One should be from a person familiar with your recovery journey (e.g., counselor, sponsor), and the other from an academic or professional reference who can speak to your potential for success in your chosen educational path.

  • Financial Need Statement: Applicants should provide a brief statement of financial need, explaining how this scholarship will alleviate financial burdens related to education.

Selection Process

  • Submission: All application materials must be submitted through our online application portal or by mail to our designated address. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

  • Deadline: The application deadline is 12/31/2024. Late applications will not be accepted.

  • Selection Process: Applications will be reviewed by our scholarship committee, which includes members familiar with addiction recovery and education. Selection is based on the applicant's commitment to recovery, educational goals, and demonstrated financial need.

  • Notification: Selected recipients will be notified by 12/31/2024. If selected, recipients must confirm their acceptance of the scholarship and provide any additional documentation if requested.

  • Award Disbursement: Scholarship funds will be disbursed directly to the educational institution or program the recipient will attend. Funds can be used for tuition, books, supplies, and other related educational expenses.

Commitment 

Recipients are encouraged to stay involved with The Jake Perry Lajoie Foundation and give back to the community by sharing their experiences, mentoring future applicants, or participating in Foundation events.
